The Pakistani government establishes a textile industrial city
On June 30, 2011, Counselor Yan Jianming of the Karachi Economic and Commercial Office was invited to attend a press conference jointly held by the Ministry of Textile Industry of Pakistan and the Sindh Government. The establishment of Pakistan Textile City was announced at the press conference. The Textile City is located in Port Qasim District, Karachi, covering an area of 1,250 acres, including industrial areas, utility areas, living facilities, park roads, power plants, water supply, and heating systems. Pakistan Textile City Co., Ltd. is responsible for operating the industrial city. It is a public-private joint venture whose shareholders include the Federal Government of Pakistan, the Sindh Provincial Government, Port Qasim Authority and the National Bank of Pakistan. The textile city can create 80,000 new jobs and is expected to promote the development of Pakistan’s textile industry in the direction of high added value and enhance the export and foreign exchange earning capabilities of Pakistan’s textile industry. At the same time, the textile city hopes to attract companies from China, Turkey and South Korea to invest and set up factories in the park.
