The cocoon production in a single season has increased by 10%-15%, and silkworm farmers are expected to increase their income by 10%.
In order to further explore large-scale breeding, Qianjiang District teamed up with Southwest University and Chongqing Academy of Sericulture Sciences to pilot artificial feed silkworm co-breeding, and launched the first industrial promotion in Wuling Mountain in May this year. The artificial feed is nutritious and balanced, and the co-bred silkworms are almost free of silkworm poisoning and pathogenic bacteria infestation, and the cocoon production and reeling rate are no less than those of traditional mulberry leaf silkworm rearing.
“In the past, silkworms had to feed mulberry leaves at least three times a day, and at least four people were busy from morning to night. After switching to artificial feed, they only need to feed once every three days, and two people can complete their daily routine. Management, each silkworm can save 20 yuan in breeding costs.” said Gao Bo, senior agronomist at the Qianjiang District Sericulture Management Station.
