Suzhou Municipal Supervisor: Random inspection of 50 batches of children’s and infant clothing products, with a pass rate of 90.0%
On December 19, 2022, the Suzhou Municipal Administration for Market Regulation issued an announcement on the quality municipal supervision and spot inspection of children and infant clothing products in 2022 (No. Issue 93).
According to the “Product Quality Law of the People’s Republic of China”, “Interim Measures for the Management of Product Quality Supervision and Spot Inspections”, “Jiangsu Province Provincial Product Quality Supervision and Spot Inspection Work Specifications” and “Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Government Information Disclosure” and other regulations, in 2022 In the first quarter, the Suzhou Municipal Administration for Market Regulation commissioned the Suzhou Fiber Inspection Institute to conduct municipal-level supervisory spot checks on the quality of children’s and infant clothing products.
A total of 50 batches were sampled in this supervision and spot inspection of children’s and infant clothing products, including 5 batches sampled by production companies, 33 batches purchased by physical stores, and e-commerce The platform purchased 12 batches of samples. After inspection, 45 batches were found to be qualified, with a pass rate of 90.0%. The main problems were unqualified color fastness to wet rubbing, fiber content and rope requirements. The main reasons for failure are as follows:
(1) The main reasons for the unqualified color fastness to wet rubbing are the dye structure, dye selection and color matching. The strength of the binding force between the dye molecules and the fiber, the bonding stability, and the adhesion of the dye to the fiber, etc., will all affect the color fastness.
(2) The main reason for the unqualified fiber content is that the production company neglects quality supervision. It fails to strictly control the fiber content of the fabric before production, and the finished product does not undergo corresponding inspection and testing after production, which ultimately leads to The fiber content label does not match the actual product. Manufacturing companies lack strict raw material incoming inspection systems and finished product qualification inspection systems, and often rely on data provided by suppliers for labeling.
(3) The main reason for unqualified rope strap requirements is probably that the enterprise is not familiar with or does not understand the mandatory standard GB31701, and only focuses on style and lacks safety awareness.
Consumption warning
First, look at the logo. Parents should pay attention to the labels when purchasing children’s clothing. Logo usually refers to labels, hang tags, wash marks, etc. The content should include at least 7 items including the Chinese factory name and address, product name, model specifications, fiber content of main parts (such as fabrics, linings, fillings, etc.), standardized washing instructions, product implementation standard codes and safety technical categories. Content, products for infants and young children under 3 years old should also be clearly marked with the words “infant and young children products”.
The second is to choose fabrics. Try to choose pure cotton products. Due to the natural characteristics of the raw materials, these products are not irritating to children’s delicate skin, and are generally soft, moisture-absorbing and breathable. On the contrary, if children wear clothing with high content of chemical fibers such as polyester, nylon, the body surface temperature and sweat will not easily If it spreads, it will produce a hot and humid feeling, and even breed bacteria, affecting health. The fabrics of children’s clothing should be strong, durable and not easily damaged.
The third is to consider safety. The safety of children’s clothing is extremely important and should generally be considered from two aspects: physical safety and chemical safety.
Physical security:
Exposed drawstrings, drawstrings, etc. should not be too long to prevent children from being entangled; ensure that buttons, zippers, and other metal accessories have no burrs, sharp edges, and tips to avoid scratching children; gently pull the accessories to check whether they are firm , to avoid being caught and accidentally eaten by children; carefully choose products with decorations such as sequins, diamonds or beads to prevent infants and young children from accidentally eating or swallowing them; children’s clothing should be unpacked and carefully checked to see if there are any metal needles before wearing it.
Chemical safety:
Try to choose products with less coating printing or no coating printing, especially summer clothes and underwear, to avoid excessive formaldehyde, heavy metals or phthalates, which may cause harm to the body. Carefully choose products with brighter or darker colors to avoid substandard indicators such as color fastness and decomposable aromatic amine dyes, which may cause injuries to infants and young children biting into the clothing.
Fourth, pay attention to style and specifications. Children are still in the developmental stage. When purchasing children’s clothing, it is generally “preferable to be large rather than small.” Loose and natural casual clothing should be the main choice, and try not to choose tight-fitting or fashionable children’s clothing. When purchasing children’s clothing, you should choose according to the size indicated on the product, taking into account the growth characteristics of children and infants and the shrinkage performance of the clothing.
