All 3,000 acres of long-staple cotton in the First Division have been mechanized picking
In 2022, all 3,000 acres of long-staple cotton planted in Alar City, the First Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, will be harvested by machine, marking the success of machine harvesting of long-staple cotton.
According to reports, in the experimental field of Xinjiang 359 Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., the modified cotton picking machine collected all the cotton buds into the warehouse, and the net picking rate reached more than 93%. In order to achieve machine picking of long-staple cotton, the company introduced the new variety Xinhai No. 60 for trial planting in 2022. After careful management, the variety grew well. The maximum yield per mu was measured to be more than 500 kilograms, and the average yield was more than 420 kilograms, and in line with Machine harvesting standards.
Qin Min, deputy general manager of Xinjiang 359 Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., said: “The non-machine-picked long-staple cotton we originally planted was the long-staple cotton that was conventionally grown in the past. Its fruit nodes are lower and generally At about 9 centimeters, budding and flocculation begin. When harvested with a cotton picker, the bottom 1-2 fruits cannot be harvested, resulting in waste. This variety of long-staple cotton we planted in 2022 can be seen as the most The bottom node is more than 16 centimeters above the ground and can reach about 18 centimeters, which basically meets our requirements for machine harvesting.” The new long-staple cotton variety Xinhai No. 60 introduced in 2022 has a growth period of about 130 days and a single boll weight of 3.2 Grams or so, the flocculation is smooth and concentrated, and the average height of the first fruit branches from the ground reaches 18 centimeters, which meets the minimum requirements for machine harvesting.
Alar City of the First Division was once the country’s high-quality long-staple cotton production base and enjoyed the reputation of “the hometown of long-staple cotton”. Now, after long-staple cotton has been harvested by machine, relevant basic data can be collected in key links, and experience can be accumulated to provide technical support for the large-scale promotion of machine-harvested long-staple cotton in the future.
