Jiashi: Cotton growth is uneven and topping will continue until the end of July
July is the peak period for cotton topping in various parts of Xinjiang. However, in April and May this year, low temperatures, hail and other bad weather in some areas caused some cotton fields to resume sowing, and topping work in some cotton fields was forced to be postponed.
July is a critical period for new cotton topping and an important period for determining future new cotton production. Since July 5, topping work has been carried out in the Jiashi area of Xinjiang. A local cotton farmer said that the current growth of new cotton is normal. The plant height of cotton seedlings with good growth is about 80 centimeters, and the height of cotton seedlings with poor growth is about 65 centimeters. This cotton farmer planted about 150 acres of cotton this year and still uses manual topping this year at a cost of 25 yuan/acre. According to the regulations of the local Corps, the topping work must be completed before July 15. However, due to the current uneven growth of cotton, the topping time is expected to be delayed, and the topping work is expected to be completed by the end of July.
