Bangladesh will remain a popular choice for clothing production in the future
According to the “Daily Star” report on September 21, a survey conducted by McKinsey on the chief procurement officers of the world’s top 63 clothing brands (retailers) showed that Bangladesh will still be the largest producer of clothing in the next five years. In the survey, chief procurement officers believe that the top five countries for the attractiveness of apparel production are: Bangladesh (49%), Ethiopia (43%), Myanmar (37%), Vietnam (35%), and India (22%). Bangladesh is currently the world’s second largest exporter of ready-made garments. In the last fiscal year, Bangladesh exported 28.14 billion U.S. dollars of clothing, a year-on-year increase of 0.2%. In the first two months of fiscal year 2018, it exported 5.52 billion U.S. dollars of clothing, a year-on-year increase of 14.05%.
