Kazakhstan’s lint cotton output increased by % compared with last year
Interfax Shymkent reported on November 27 that 328,000 tons of lint cotton were picked in South Kazakhstan, the main cotton-producing area of Kazakhstan, in 2017, an increase of 17% compared with 2016. This year, a total of 134,000 hectares of cotton were planted, with an average yield of 2,450 kg/hectare. At present, South Kazakhstan cotton is mainly exported to Russia, Belarus, Germany, Lithuania, China, Belgium, Iran, Ukraine, Italy, and South Korea. Since the beginning of the year, 30,000 tons have been exported. South Kazakhstan is the only state in Kazakhstan where cotton is grown, with Makta Alar being the main production area.
