With the slow recovery of the economy, the EU market has gradually stabilized. In the first quarter, textile and apparel exports to the EU were US$9.81 billion, regaining 2.4% growth after three consecutive years of decline. This was mainly driven by a year-on-year growth of 10.7% for textiles and a 1.2% year-on-year decrease for apparel. According to EU customs statistics, from January to February 2018, the EU imported US$24.29 billion in textiles and clothing from the world, a year-on-year increase of 17%, and imported US$8.24 billion from China, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%. Imports from ASEAN and Bangladesh increased by 23.3% and 19.7% respectively year-on-year. The market share of Chinese products in the EU was 34%, down 0.7 percentage points from the same period in 2017.
