Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce commented on the US statement
We were both surprised and expected by the strategic statement issued by the White House. It is obviously contrary to the consensus reached by China and the United States not long ago in Washington. No matter what measures the United States takes, China has the confidence, ability and experience to defend the interests of the Chinese people and the country’s core interests. China urges the United States to meet each other halfway in accordance with the spirit of the joint statement.
