“Dry sowing and wet planting” have achieved initial results, and millions of acres of cotton are growing well
Global cotton looks to China, and Chinese cotton looks to Xinjiang. As an important commercial cotton production base in the country, the XPCC produces more than one-third of the country’s cotton. To complete the cotton sowing work with highquality, in addition to mechanization empowerment, it is also inseparable from the continuous improvement of cotton sowing skills.
This year, Tumushuke of the Third Division adopted the “dry sowing and wet planting” planting technology in the cotton sowing process. This technology is called “water dripping and moisture storage under the film”. That is, the cotton fields harvested in the previous year will no longer be irrigated in winter and spring. During the next year’s farming, the land will be directly leveled and covered with film for sowing. When the ground temperature rises to a suitable temperature for cotton seedlings to emerge, the technology will be used. The ground pipes and drip irrigation tapes installed in advance drip water to achieve “dry soil sowing and wet seedlings emerging”.
In the cotton field of the 15th Company of the 51st Regiment of the 3rd Division, Alimu Tuxun was checking the condition of the cotton under the scorching sun. Alimu Tuxun tried the “dry sowing and wet planting” planting technology for the first time this year. At first, he was accustomed to the traditional planting model, but he did not fully trust this new technology. After the company party branch’s explanation and the precedents of other growers, Under the influence, he decided to “give it a try”.
“I just started trying the ‘dry sowing and wet planting’ technology this year. The cotton seedlings have just emerged and are growing well. The first time I dripped water, I used nutritional medicine, the second time I added phosphoric acid, and the third time I added phosphoric acid. Two kilograms of uric acid dripped from the field.” Alimu Tuxun told reporters, pointing to the cotton in the field.
Kmir Aili, deputy commander of the 15th Company of the 51st Regiment, said: “The 15th Company’s ‘dry sowing and wet planting’ cotton planting area this year is about 5,000 acres. So far, the cotton is growing very well, compared with previous years. The emergence rate is fast, and now is the seedling period for ‘dry sowing and wet sowing’ cotton. In the absence of natural disasters, the yield per mu of land is about 450 kilograms.”
Similarly, in the 18th Company not far away, Xu Liang, secretary of the party branch of the company who “couldn’t take any time off”, came to the cotton field early to check on the growth of cotton. Looking around, the entire cotton field is arranged in an orderly manner. When talking about this “seedling”, Xu Liang always has endless things to say. This cotton field has become his daily “check-in place”.
