-Overview of China’s apparel exports
From January to April 2017, national apparel exports continued to decline, with exports reaching US$43.42 billion, a slight decrease of 0.77%, but the decline narrowed.
1. Exports to the United States and Japan turned from falling to increasing
From January to April 2017, my country’s exports to traditional markets Europe, the United States, and Japan all declined. Exports to the EU experienced the largest decline, with exports reaching US$8.74 billion, down 4.9%. Exports to the United States were US$8.71 billion, a slight increase of 0.1%. Exports to Japan were US$5.15 billion, an increase of 1.1%.
In addition, exports to the Middle East were US$3.35 billion, a decrease of 16.5%. Exports to Hong Kong were US$2.08 billion, down 14.1%. Exports to ASEAN were US$2.57 billion, down 10.6%. Exports to Latin America were US$2.57 billion, an increase of 19.3%. Exports to Africa were US$2.61 billion, down 3.9%. Exports to Russia were US$1.67 billion, an increase of 25.5%. Exports to Australia were US$1.26 billion, down 3.4%. Exports to South Korea were US$1.53 billion, down 0.5%.
2. The export of woven garments has increased significantly, while the export of knitted garments has continued to decline
From January to April 2017, woven garment exports were US$20.95 billion, an increase of 7.8%. Knitted garment exports were US$16.15 billion, down 11.2%. Fur leather apparel exports reached US$6.32 billion, an increase of 57.5%. In terms of commodity materials, cotton garment exports were US$15.82 billion, a decrease of 5.1%; chemical fiber garment exports were US$15.61 billion, a decrease of 3%; silk garment exports were US$840 million, an increase of 236.6%; woolen garment exports were US$1.13 billion, An increase of 103.1%.
3. Guangdong’s exports increased by nearly 10%, accounting for 27% of the country’s share
From January to April 2017, Guangdong ranked first among the top five provinces and cities in apparel exports, with exports of US$11.64 billion, an increase of 9.4%. Zhejiang’s exports were US$7.63 billion, a decrease of 3.6%; Jiangsu’s exports were US$6.61 billion, an increase of 10.2%; Fujian’s exports were US$3.53 billion, a decrease of 23.1%; Shandong’s exports were US$3.19 billion, an increase of 8.4%.
