EU issues consumer warning on Chinese women’s pajamas
On September 8, 2017, the European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) issued a consumer warning (alert number: A12/1204/17) for Chinese-made “Zeeman” brand women’s pajamas. The notifying country in this case is Germany. The products notified this time are gray/black/pink women’s pajamas with a corset, lace trim, adjustable gray suspenders, and tags. The style/model number of the product is 28059. Barcode unknown. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development industry classification code (OECD Portal Category) is 67000000-Clothing.
The above-mentioned pajamas contain azo dye Disperse Yellow 23 (CI26070) which releases an excessive amount of aromatic amine 4-aminoazobenzene (detection value is 567 mg/kg). Aromatic amines can be absorbed into the skin when the product is in direct, prolonged contact with the skin. Aromatic amines can cause cancer, cell mutations and affect reproduction. This product does not comply with the requirements of the EU REACH regulation.
At present, importers have taken recall, ban on sales and other related measures from consumers for the above products.
