Bangladesh textile industry calls for exemption from import duties on boiler fuel
According to a report by Bangladesh’s “Financial Express” on September 19, due to the continued shortage of natural gas, Bangladeshi textile enterprises are struggling to survive and are at a competitive disadvantage. Therefore, the Bangladeshi textile industry calls on the government to exempt boiler fuel from import duties to ensure Fuel supply. Due to the scarcity of natural gas, investment in Bangladesh’s domestic textile industry continues to shrink, with only 17 new factories put into operation between 2012 and 2016. By the end of 2016, there were 424 textile factories, 794 weaving factories, and 241 dyeing, finishing, and printing factories in Bangladesh. At present, the output value of this industry reaches US$600 million, with an annual production capacity of 2.41 billion kilograms of yarn, a textile fabric production capacity of 3.558 billion meters, and a printing, dyeing and printing capacity of 279,500 meters.
