Cotton prices fall in southern India, traders expect cotton yarn demand to pick up

Foreign news on November 1st showed that after Diwali, cotton prices fell seasonally and demand remained weak. Cotton yarn prices in southern India fell by 5-12 rupees per kilogram. Limited purchasing activity by buyers across the textile value chain further dampened market sentiment. However, traders expect that seasonal buying will begin soon, as stockpiling is essential during the arrival of cotton.

In Kupang, cotton prices have fallen by Rs 3,000 per kandi (356 kg) since Diwali due to seasonal pressure and sluggish demand from textile companies. According to market participants, textile companies are slow to purchase cotton as they face differences in current cotton and yarn prices. Once the price per kandi drops below Rs 60,000, demand will pick up. Kupang cotton price fell to 64,000-64,500 rupees per kandi.
