Cotton yarn prices in southern India continue to fall, and the market still faces the challenge of declining demand

Fabric prices have also declined in the western Indian market. However, the Tirupur market in southern India maintained a stable trend despite slowing demand. Prices are likely to fall further as a lack of buyers continues to impact both markets.

A trader in the Mumbai market said: “There is a sense of panic in the market because we are not sure how to deal with this situation. Cotton prices are falling because no one is willing to buy cotton under the current circumstances.”

In Mumbai, 60-count roving warp and weft yarns are trading at Rs 1,460-1,490 and Rs 1,320-1,360 per 5 kg (excluding GST). 60 count combed warp yarn 340-345 rupees per kg, 80 count carded weft yarn 1410-1450 rupees per 4.5 kg, 44/46 count combed warp yarn 268-272 rupees per kg, 40/41 count combed warp yarn 252- per kg 262 rupees, 40/41 count combed warp yarn 275-280 rupees per kg.

Cotton yarn prices remain stable in Tirupur market but may fall due to falling cotton prices and subdued demand from the textile industry. The recent decline in cotton prices has given some comfort to spinners, allowing them to minimize losses and potentially reach a break-even point. A trader in the Tirupur market said: “Traders have not lowered prices in the past few days as they are trying to maintain profits. However, cheaper cotton may lead to a drop in yarn prices. Buyers are still reluctant to make further purchases.”

In Tirupur, 30-count combed cotton yarn costs 266-272 rupees per kg (excluding GST), 34-count combed cotton yarn 277-283 rupees per kg, 40-count combed cotton yarn Carded cotton yarn is priced at 287-294 rupees per kilogram, 30-count carded cotton yarn is 242-246 rupees per kilogram, 34-count carded cotton yarn is 249-254 rupees per kilogram, and 40-count carded cotton yarn is 253-260 rupees per kilogram.

In Kupang, cotton prices fell sharply due to poor global market sentiment and sluggish demand from spinning mills. In the past few days, cotton prices have fallen by Rs 1,000-1,500 per kandi (356 kg). Traders said that while prices may continue to fall, they are not expected to drop significantly. If prices continue to fall, textile mills may make purchases. Cotton is trading at Rs 56,000-56,500 per 356 kg. It is estimated that the arrival volume of cotton in Kupang is 20,000-22,000 bales (170 kg each), and the arrival volume of cotton in India is expected to be about 80,000 to 90,000 bales.
