Yunnan Xiangyun: 62 yuan per kilogram, breaking the “spring cocoon record” in more than 30 years
“My family has been raising silkworms for more than 30 years. The lowest price was only 8 yuan per kilogram. Unexpectedly, this year it was more than 60 yuan per kilogram, which is the highest price for silkworms in more than 30 years.” 5 On March 21, a group of Yan Shuhuan and his wife from Songmei Village, Liuchang Town, Xiangyun County sold silkworm cocoons brought by a tricycle for 20,378 yuan. The couple was so happy that they could not help themselves.
The earliest spring cocoons in Xiangyun County were put on the scale in Liuchang Town on May 17. According to Pu Shixiang, the head of Liuchang Station of Huangzheng Group, the company collected more than 40 tons of silkworm cocoons in three days, with an average price of 62 yuan/kg. In addition to Huangzheng Group, multiple cocoon purchase points such as Guangsheng Company and Xingguang Cooperative opened weighing scales at the same time. The average price was around 62 yuan/kg, setting a record high for spring cocoon prices.
Tricycles pulling cocoons drove to the collection point one after another. Silkworm farmers lined up to chat with their own cocoons, and from time to time they held up the white cocoons to comment. When baskets of large and plump cocoons were weighed, The faces of the silkworm farmers were filled with the joy of harvest, and the fatigue of working day and night for more than 20 days was gone.
It is understood that due to the impact of the epidemic, the cocoon silk market has fluctuated greatly. The price of spring silkworm cocoons in Xiangyun County in 2020 was 36.23 yuan/kg. At present, the domestic silk market is recovering, silk products are in short supply, and prices have also risen. The price of spring cocoons has increased by 71% over the same period.
In addition to the increase in cocoon prices, the quality of silkworm cocoons has also increased compared with previous years. “My family has 11 acres of mulberry trees. Last year, we raised 6 spring silkworms this year. This year, we produced more than 200 kilograms of cocoons, which is 30 to 40 kilograms more than last year.” Zhang Chaozhi, a silkworm farmer in Qingpo Village, said.
Yang Qiongzhen, the head of the Xiangyun County Tea and Mulberry Work Station who came to guide the spring cocoon acquisition work, said happily that silkworm farmers have overcome many difficulties and strive to maintain spring silkworm breeding. In addition, the county, town and village levels have combined party history study and education with the “party organization” + technical guidance + unified prevention and control + adequate irrigation” model records the history of the party in the fields and promotes science and technology to help mulberry. Therefore, the quality of spring cocoons is better, and the rising price of cocoons is also a concrete manifestation of the high quality of cocoons in the market.
“The income from spring silkworm breeding has made up for the losses caused by the drought to sericulture farmers to a certain extent, effectively increased the income of sericulture farmers, increased the enthusiasm of sericulture farmers to plant mulberry and raise sericulture, and laid a solid foundation for the revitalization of Xiangyun’s sericulture industry.” Yang Qiongzhen said.
