What does the density of canvas mean? What types of canvas are there?

What does the density of canvas mean? The fabric density of canvas is calculated in metric units, which refers to the number of warp and weft yarns arranged in one square inch. The density directly affects the physical and mechanical indicators such as the appearance, feel, thickness, strength, flexural resistance, air permeability, abrasion resistance and warmth retention performance of the fabric. It is also related to the cost and production efficiency of the product.

Canvas There are two methods for measuring the warp and weft density:

1. Direct Measuring method
The direct measuring method is accomplished with a cloth mirror or fabric density analysis mirror. The scale length of the fabric density analysis mirror is 5cm. Under the analysis lens, there is a red line engraved on a long strip of glass. When analyzing the fabric density, move the lens and align the red line on the glass piece and the red line on the scale at a certain two points at the same time. Between the yarns, use this as a starting point, and count the number of yarns while moving the camera until the 5cm mark is reached. Multiply the output number of yarns by 2, which is the density value of 10cm fabric.

When counting the number of yarns, the center between the two yarns should be used as the starting point. If the count reaches the end point, it exceeds 0.5 yarns, and if it is less than one yarn, it should be counted as 0.75 yarns. ; If it is less than 0.5 strands, it will be calculated as 0.25 strands. Generally, 3-4 data should be measured for fabric density, and then the arithmetic mean value should be taken as the measurement result.

2. Indirect testing method
This method is suitable for fabrics with high density and regular weave with small yarn count. First, after analyzing the fabric structure and the number of weft threads in its tissue circulation (the number of weft threads in the tissue circulation), and then multiplying by the number of tissue circulations in 10cm, the resulting product is the warp (weft) yarn density.

What are the types of canvas?

Canvas is usually divided into two categories: coarse canvas and fine canvas. In addition, there are rubber canvas, shielding canvas for fire protection and radiation protection, and canvas for paper machines.

1. Rough canvas, also known as tarpaulin, is commonly woven with No. 58 (10-inch) 4 to 7-strand yarn. The fabric is strong and resistant to folding, has good waterproof properties, and is used for automobile transportation. and outdoor warehouse covers and outdoor tents.

2. The warp and weft yarns of fine canvas are generally 2 strands of No. 58 to 6 strands of No. 28 (10 inches/2 to 21 inches/6), which are used to make labor protection clothing and supplies. After dyeing, it can also be used as fabric for shoes, travel bags, backpacks, etc.
