The results of random inspections of children’s clothing released by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine show that 40% of the products are of unqualified quality, and more than 30% of them have excessive formaldehyde emissions, seriously threatening children’s physical and mental health. Experts point out that when many young parents choose children’s clothing for their children, they only consider the style, color and other appearance factors of the clothing, and rarely consider the special requirements of children in the growth and development period for clothing safety. In fact, when choosing children’s clothing, you must be beautiful and healthy.
An expert who has been engaged in textile inspection for many years recently helped us identify the quality of children’s clothing from four aspects.
To mark the product, check whether there is a trademark, Chinese factory name and address, clothing model identification, and ingredient identification of fabrics and linings. Clothes with fillers should also indicate the composition and content of the fillers; whether there is a label on the product. Certificate of conformity, product implementation standard number, product quality level and other identification, and understand the requirements for washing and maintenance methods; in addition, if the product is marked with formaldehyde content, infant clothing for 0 to 24 months should be <20mg/kg, greater than For children 24 months old, clothing that comes into contact with the skin is ≤75mg/kg, and clothing that is not in contact with the skin is ≤300mg/kg. Permanent markings on children's clothing should be made of soft materials and sewn in appropriate locations. Care should be taken to avoid direct contact with children's skin to prevent damage to children's skin due to friction.
Appearance: Whether there are any obvious weaving defects on the main surface parts and seaming parts of children’s clothing. When purchasing clothing, you can pull on the side seam to see if there is any “slip” in the seam. Pay attention to whether the zipper of children’s clothing is smooth, and pay special attention to whether the buttons or decorative parts are firm to prevent children from easily tearing them off and swallowing them.
Sew and check whether the symmetrical parts of the children’s clothing are consistent.
Fabric composition At present, the harmful substances in children’s clothing fabrics are mainly formaldehyde and dyes. Therefore, parents should first choose pure cotton fabrics when purchasing children’s clothing, such as ordinary pure cotton or natural colored cotton products; secondly, the color patterns should be as simple and elegant as possible. Clothes with bright colors generally have high formaldehyde content, while clothing with plain colors and non-printed clothing should be as simple and elegant as possible. Children with patterns have lower levels of formaldehyde.
