On the 18th, the Italian Foreign Trade Commission (ICE) stated here that the Italian national pavilion, composed of more than 30 companies and more than 40 brands, will dedicate a “high-quality exhibition area” to the China International Clothing and Accessories Expo.


The annual turnover of the Italian textile and garment industry is approximately 52.8 billion euros, of which exports account for 52.4%. Last year, China’s clothing imports from Italy amounted to US$330 million, an increase of 65% over the previous year. Italy’s direct exports of clothing to China account for about 16% of China’s imported clothing.



In terms of fabrics, especially wool fabrics, Italy is China’s largest supplier. Last year, China imported wool fabrics from Italy worth approximately US$175 million, accounting for 31% of China’s total wool fabric imports.



Lai Shiping, chief representative of ICE, said that despite the impact of the financial crisis, the number of Italian exhibitors participating in this expo was basically the same as that of previous expositions, indicating the importance of the Chinese market to Italian companies.



Lai Shiping emphasized that although the data shows that the import and export volume of textile and clothing between the two countries has decreased to a certain extent, due to the Chinese government’s response measures to the financial crisis in a short period of time, China’s high-end consumer groups have been hit by the crisis and have Not as serious as in Europe and America. He believes that after the crisis, China’s consumer groups will pay more attention to product quality, which will provide opportunities for Italian textile and apparel companies to develop in China.



It is reported that in addition to the Clothing and Accessories Expo, the Italian National Pavilion will also participate in the China International Textile Fabrics and Accessories (Spring and Summer) Expo, where the “2010 Summer Fabric Trends Conference” will also be held.
