Sudan’s Ministry of Agriculture regards cotton as a strategic crop
According to Sudanese media reports: Sudan’s Ministry of Agriculture announced that cotton, as a strategic crop, will once again become the core of Sudan’s agricultural development. Currently, the ministry is making relevant preparations and planning, and plans to cooperate with Sudanese cotton farmers and cotton companies to promote cotton production and expand planting area. The target planting area for this agricultural production season is 500,000 feddans. Zuber, governor of Gazira State, a major cotton-producing province in Sudan, said that he and state government cabinet officials attach great importance to agricultural development, especially the development of cotton planting, which is a strategic choice of the state government. To this end, the state government will go all out, use all available resources, and work closely with relevant parties to achieve the goal of increasing cotton production and harvesting. He pointed out that cotton is “white gold”. Today, when Sudan is facing the separation of north and south, it will play the role of replacing the “black gold” oil and make up for the losses caused to the national finance due to the reduction of oil.
