Zambian cotton price negotiations reach deadlock

According to reports, negotiations between Zambian cotton producers and ginners on the minimum price of cotton this season have once again reached a deadlock. Cotton farmers hope to sell at a price of 3,000 kwacha/kg, but cotton mills are only willing to bid 2,000 kwacha/kg.
Last year, the cotton price was 3,200 kwacha/kg, and the output was 142,000 tons. This year’s cotton output reached 286,000 tons.
The chairman of the Zambia Cotton Growers Association said that the cotton mills’ bids were unfair and far lower than those of neighboring Malawi and Zimbabwe. Once the transaction is realized based on the quotation of cotton mills, it will seriously damage the enthusiasm of cotton farmers and lead to a decline in Zambia’s cotton output in the future.
