Vietnam’s clothing and textile exports reached 1.1 billion US dollars
On July 3, Vietnam’s General Bureau of Statistics released data showing that Vietnam’s clothing and textile exports reached US$6.76 billion in the first half of 2012, a year-on-year increase of 8.7%. Among them, the United States is still the largest market for Vietnam’s clothing and textile exports, accounting for 51% of total exports, followed by the European Union, Japan and South Korea.
The Vietnam Garment and Textile Industry Association stated that due to factors such as the global economic downturn, Vietnam’s garment and textile industry will still face difficulties in the second half of this year. In the first half of this year, Vietnam’s exports of clothing and textiles to the EU fell by 1.4% year-on-year.
At the same time, in the first half of this year, the average price of cotton in Vietnam fell significantly, from US$3.9 per kilogram in 2011 to US$1.9 per kilogram in June this year.
In 2011, Vietnam’s clothing and textile exports reached US$15.6 billion, and the export target in this field in 2012 is US$18 billion.
