Venezuela becomes the largest buyer of Peruvian textile and apparel industry
The Lima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCL) recently stated that Venezuela has surpassed the United States and become the largest purchaser of Peruvian textiles and garments.
Based on data from the Foreign Trade Center, CCL pointed out that from January to May this year, Peru’s textile and garment exports to Venezuela reached a record high of 265 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 206% compared with the same period last year.
Of the total exports in the first five months of this year ($841 million), exports to Venezuela accounted for 31.5%, while exports to the United States accounted for 30.7%.
CCL detailed that the composition of textile and garment exports is 77% garment products (clothing) and 23% textiles (spinning threads and consumables).
In the first five months of this year, the number of textile export companies increased from 351 to 494, an increase of 41% compared with the same period last year.
