According to a report by The Independent on the 21st, the recent outbreak of labor disputes has led to the closure of a large number of garment factories in Bangladesh. Among them, at least 55 garment factories in the Ashulia Industrial Zone have closed indefinitely. The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) stated that the workers’ strike did not express their demands to the government or factory management through appropriate means, which was an illegal act and they would not receive any wages during the strike. The BGMEA stated that according to relevant laws, a new wage committee was established five years after the last wage increase to prepare for the next wage adjustment.
