From January to May 2017, national apparel exports continued to decline, with exports reaching US$56.42 billion, a slight decrease of 1.1%.
1. Exports to Europe, the United States, and Japan all declined slightly
From January to May 2017, my country’s exports to traditional markets Europe, the United States, and Japan all declined. Exports to the EU experienced the largest decline, with exports reaching US$11.68 billion, down 4.8%. Exports to the United States were US$11.25 billion, a slight decrease of 1%. Exports to Japan were US$6.18 billion, down 0.1%.
In addition, exports to the Middle East were US$4.59 billion, a decrease of 13.9%. Exports to Hong Kong were US$2.7 billion, down 13.3%. Exports to ASEAN were US$3.45 billion, down 9.9%. Exports to Latin America were US$3.27 billion, an increase of 20%. Exports to Africa were US$3.58 billion, an increase of 3.1%. Exports to Russia were US$2.21 billion, an increase of 20.4%. Exports to Australia were US$1.52 billion, down 4.5%. Exports to South Korea were US$1.95 billion, down 2.2%.
2. The export of woven garments has increased significantly, while the export of knitted garments has continued to decline
From January to May 2017, woven garment exports were US$26.98 billion, an increase of 7%. Knitted garment exports were US$21.16 billion, down 10.9%. Fur leather apparel exports reached US$8.14 billion, an increase of 40.2%. In terms of commodity materials, cotton garment exports were US$20.68 billion, down 5%; chemical fiber garment exports were US$20.02 billion, down 4.4%; silk garment exports were US$1.13 billion, an increase of 265.1%; woolen garment exports were US$1.64 billion, An increase of 105.4%.
3. Guangdong’s clothing exports grew by more than 10%, accounting for 27% of the country’s share
From January to May 2017, Guangdong ranked first among the top five provinces and cities in apparel exports, with exports of US$15.4 billion, an increase of 10.5%. Zhejiang’s exports were US$10 billion, a decrease of 3.3%; Jiangsu’s exports were US$8.52 billion, an increase of 9.2%; Fujian’s exports were US$4.67 billion, a decrease of 21.7%; Shandong’s exports were US$4.04 billion, an increase of 3.9%.
