In Gao County, there are many silkworm farmers like the silkworm farmers in Hongxing Village, Luorun Town, who are busy managing the “three winters” of mulberry gardens during the farming season and laying a solid foundation for a bumper harvest of mulberry leaves in the coming year.
The sericulture industry is the pillar industry with the widest coverage and the fastest increase in farmers’ income in Gaoxian County. The county currently has 235,000 acres of mulberry gardens, ranking first in the province in planting area, covering 13 towns, 134 villages, and 30,000 households with nearly 100,000 sericulture farmers. In recent years, Gaoxian County has taken “reviving silkworms through science and technology” as its starting point, focusing on solving the problem of silkworm and mulberry varieties, and established a “company + sericulture association + county sericulture station, town agricultural center + cocoon station, village sericulture members, and co-cultivation” The small silkworm co-cultivation service system is supported by a four-level service network of “households + technology demonstration households” and “co-breeding rooms + co-breeding factories”, “technicians + co-breeding factories” and “co-breeding households + silkworm farmers” to achieve industrial specialization and intensification At the same time, special funds are allocated every year to implement rewards instead of subsidies for silkworm farmers to promote “co-cultivation of small silkworms + cocoon evaluation and sales” to improve the quality of silkworm cocoons and boost the county’s silkworm development Accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the industry. At present, Gaoxian County has been awarded titles such as “China’s Hometown of Sericulture” and “China’s High-Quality Cocoon Silk Production Base”.
This year, Gaoxian County continues to use the “Silkworm Co-breeding Service System” as a support to vigorously promote the “Silkworm Co-breeding + Cocoon Evaluation and Sale” technology to improve the quality of silkworm cocoons and help farmers increase their income. In 2022, a total of 241,000 seeds were issued in Gaoxian County, a year-on-year increase of 2.5%; 11.175 million kilograms of cocoons were produced, a year-on-year increase of 6.1%; silkworm farmers earned 545 million yuan from cocoon payments.
