Southern Xinjiang: Rainfall and cooling have little impact on cotton growth
The current weather in Xinjiang is relatively stable and suitable for cotton growth. Although strong winds, hail and other disastrous weather occur in some areas, the overall impact is not significant due to the small scope and timely remediation by cotton farmers.
On the eve of the May Day holiday, rainfall and cooling weather occurred in the Korla region of Xinjiang, and root rot occurred in a few cotton fields, which had a certain impact on the growth of cotton seedlings. Local cotton farmers said that due to the large temperature difference between morning and evening, small and large seedlings appeared in some fields. At present, the main tasks of cotton farmers are cultivating and spraying pesticides. Cotton farmers loosen the soil through cultivating to increase ground temperature and promote the growth of cotton seedlings. At the same time, spray poplar in a timely manner according to the conditions of the cotton fields to prevent diseases and insect pests such as thrips and cutworms.
Cotton farmers in the Yarkand area of Xinjiang said that local cotton is growing well. The average height of cotton seedlings is about 15 centimeters, with basically two leaves in one center. The main job of cotton farmers is to spray pesticides to prevent insect pests, and it is expected to start watering cotton fields in late May.
