Small neps – white stars. Most of them are caused by poorly processed and immature fibers, especially cotton fibers damaged by diseases and insect pests and stiff cotton fibers. They are as numerous and violent as the locust plague on crops, causing great harm. They are a catastrophic killer of textile quality. Because of its small size, it is easy to be grasped and adhered to gauze, making it a defect that is difficult to remove during the entire textile printing and dyeing process. For example, due to the small size and weight of neps, they can be easily wrapped in the yarn or attached to the surface of the yarn, and then attached to the cloth surface after being woven into cloth. During the printing and dyeing process, because the cotton fibers are entangled together, only the top wool of the cloth is burned during the singeing process, and the cotton fiber clumps cannot be burned away. When the cotton fiber mass is attached to the cloth surface, its adhesion is stronger after printing and dyeing, and it blocks the color from penetrating the cloth surface during printing and dyeing. After the printed and dyed cloth is dried, due to the change of the cellulose crystalline area in the fiber after the printing and dyeing of the neps under the action of chemical dyes, the adhesion is reduced and falls off, and countless irregular undyed white spots appear on the cloth surface. Small defects will degrade the batch quality of printed and dyed fabrics. The harm is serious and the losses are huge.
