Textile industry: Six major advantages still exist. How can we give up on the export market?

The three most influential exhibitions in my country’s textile and apparel industry – China International Clothing and Accessories Expo, China International Textile Fabrics and Accessories (Spring and Summer) Expo, and China International Textile Yarn (Spring and Summer) Expo will be held in Beijing one after another on March 26. At the opening, the three major exhibitions became the focus of everyone’s attention. Under the influence of the international financial crisis, what will be the situation of my country’s yarn, fabric and clothing exports? How will yarn, fabric and apparel companies expand the international market in the future? They are all topics of concern to everyone.

The rapid development of the textile and apparel industry in recent years has led to the popularity of textile exhibitions. However, as the international financial crisis spreads to the real economy, my country’s textile and apparel industry has encountered unprecedented difficulties. International market demand has shrunk, textile and apparel exports have been hindered, and international orders have shown a decreasing trend at textile and apparel exhibitions.

The 19th China East China Import and Export Fair that just concluded a few days ago shows this trend. In terms of transaction volume, the total export transaction volume of this China Fair was US$2.24 billion, a decrease of 39.06% from the previous session. Among them, the turnover of textile and clothing products was US$1.245 billion, a decrease of 32.47% from the previous session. The decrease in international orders has in turn affected the development of the textile industry. Some export companies have begun to turn to the domestic market, and some have even given up on the export market. But is it really not possible in the international market? Is there no future for the export market? While attaching importance to the domestic sales market, we cannot ignore the export market. Only by expanding diversified export markets and stabilizing the share of the export market can we usher in greater development space after the crisis has passed.

International competitiveness remains strong

Although the quality of my country’s textile and clothing export products is not very high and is mainly based on quantity, great progress has been made in recent years. Textile enterprises have developed from price competition, quality competition, service competition to brand competition. It is very important to open up the international market to solve the brand problem, not just the product problem. The brand has become a valuable ticket to enter the international market.

As textile companies have made great progress in independent innovation and brand development, judging from the export situation of yarn, fabrics and clothing, international competitiveness is constantly improving. This can be seen from the changes in the competitiveness coefficients of these three major products.

The closer the competitiveness coefficient value is to 1, the more export-oriented the trade structure of the product is, which means that the product has a stronger comparative advantage over its trading partners. It can be seen from the changes in the export competitiveness coefficient in the table above that the competitiveness of my country’s yarn and fabrics has grown rapidly. In 8 years, the competitiveness of yarns and fabrics in the international market has been very weak. There are a large number of domestic downstream textile and garment enterprises. It uses imported high-grade yarns and fabrics locally and has now occupied a place in the international market. The competitiveness of clothing has always been very strong. In the fabric trade, cotton fabrics and chemical fiber fabrics dominate, and these two types of fabrics are products with the fastest growing competitiveness.

The added value of fabrics and clothing exports continues to increase

Judging from my country’s yarn, fabric and clothing exports, after joining the WTO, yarn, fabric and clothing exports have shown a rapid growth trend for several consecutive years. In the eight years from 2000 to 2008, the average annual growth rate of yarn exports reached 14.47%, the average annual growth rate of fabrics reached 15.13%, and the average annual growth rate of clothing reached 16.21%.

According to my country’s customs statistics, my country’s yarn exports in 2008 were 2.2194 million tons, an increase of 2.24% over the same period last year; the export value was US$7.770 billion, an increase of 4.82% over the same period last year; the average unit price was US$3.5/kg, an increase of 2.24% over the same period last year. An increase of 2.34% over the same period. In 2008, my country’s fabric exports were 18.5787 billion meters, an increase of 3.33% over the same period last year; the export value was US$20.762 billion, an increase of 13.32% over the same period last year; the average unit price was US$1.12/meter, an increase of 9.8% over the same period last year. In 2008, my country’s clothing exports were 29.552 billion pieces, down 0.37% from the same period last year; the export value was US$98.250 billion, an increase of 0.67% from the same period last year; the average unit price was US$3.32/meter, an increase of 0.91% from the same period last year.

Judging from the export growth in recent years, the export growth rate has continued to decline, but the average export price of fabrics and clothing has continued to increase. In 2000, the average export price of fabrics was US$0.79 per meter, and the average export price of clothing was US$2.51 per piece. By 2008, the average export price of fabrics and clothing had reached US$1.12 per meter and US$3.32 per piece respectively. It can be seen that after several years of hard work, my country’s fabric and clothing companies have greatly improved in technological innovation, product design level, and corporate brand development. A number of original technologies with independent intellectual property rights have been promoted and applied, which has greatly promoted In addition to the development of textile fabrics, clothing companies are also making continuous efforts to create independent brands.

The trend of export market diversification is obvious

In 2008, my country’s textile and clothing exports were exported to 226 countries and regions. Among them, there are 38 markets with export amounts exceeding US$1 billion. The diversification trend of the export market is obvious. The textile and apparel industry is establishing a reasonable export market layout. By reducing market concentration and diversifying market risks, it will effectively promote the sustained and healthy development of export trade. my country yarnDecoration is my country’s traditional export advantage industry and is of great significance to ensuring employment and stimulating consumption. In order to ensure the healthy development of the textile industry, the state raised the export tax rebate rate for some textiles and clothing twice in August and November 2008. Afterwards, six policies and measures to promote the healthy development of the light textile industry were introduced on November 19 to promote industrial upgrading; the value-added tax reform plan will be implemented on January 1, 2009, which will effectively reduce the cost of equipment purchased by textile enterprises and increase The scale of value-added tax that can be deducted; the State Council recently passed the textile industry revitalization plan in principle and further increased the textile and clothing export tax rebate rate to 15%. The introduction of a series of new policies has brought hope to the textile and apparel industry out of its predicament.

With the support of national policies, what the textile industry and enterprises need to do now is to work hard on internal skills, focus on independent innovation, technological transformation, elimination of backwardness, and optimization of layout, promote structural adjustment and industrial upgrading, and strive for survival with an eye inward. At the same time, without giving up the established advantages in international trade, there is still a lot of room for development in the international market.
