Pakistan’s cotton output may reach 10,000 bales in the next fiscal year
According to Pakistan’s “National” report, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Masood Khan (Masood Khan) recently said in an interview with “China Textile News” that due to the expansion of cotton planting area and the government’s favorable measures, the 2011-12 fiscal year ( From July 2011 to June 2012) Pakistan’s cotton production is expected to reach a record high of 15 million bales. The previous record was 14.6 million tons set in the 2004-05 fiscal year, but then began to decline sharply.
Khan said that the doubling of cotton prices in 2010 stimulated farmers to expand planting area. In the 2011-12 fiscal year, Pakistan’s cotton planting area is expected to increase by 8% to 8.5 million acres. In addition, the Pakistani government also plans to introduce plans to deal with attacks by cotton pests and diseases and take measures to ensure the supply of cotton seeds. Khan said that the cotton textile industry occupies an important position in Pakistan’s national economy, and increasing cotton production is crucial to achieving the 4.2% economic growth target for the new fiscal year. Khan also welcomed Chinese companies to set up cotton spinning mills in Pakistan.
