Indian weaving companies ask the government to cancel anti-dumping duties on imported yarn
As polyester yarn prices soar in the domestic market, Indian powerloom mills have asked the central government to lift anti-dumping duties on imported yarn to help the struggling companies survive.
The textile industry in Surat region accounts for 40% of the country’s man-made fiber demand. The region has more than 650,000 power looms and produces approximately 25 million meters of cloth per day.
In the past three months, yarn manufacturers have increased prices of nylon and polyester yarns by Rs 30-40/kg and end-user prices to Rs 130-140/kg.
