Average domestic cotton consumption in the United States bales
The U.S. Census Bureau reported that in May 2011, the average daily domestic cotton consumption was 13,500 bales. This is higher than the average daily consumption of 13,300 packs last month, but lower than the 13,700 packs in May last year. Total consumption in May (4 weeks) was 269,000 packs, higher than the 237,000 packs in the previous month (4 weeks), but lower than the 275,000 packs in May (4 weeks) last year.
According to the Census Bureau report, as of the end of May 2011, cotton inventories in textile mills had accumulated 134,000 bales. This compares with 132,000 bales last month and 147,000 bales at the end of May last year. As of the end of May 2011, public cotton stocks stood at 3,442,000 bales, down from 4,656,000 bales last month and 4,975,000 bales at the end of May last year.
