Pakistan’s textile and apparel industry exports fell by .%
According to Pakistan’s “Business Record” report on June 21, data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday showed that Pakistan’s textile and apparel industry exported US$940 million in May 2017, down 12.24% from the same period last year. From July 2016 to May 2017, the textile industry achieved cumulative exports of US$11.23 billion, down 1.98% from the same period last year.
Data show that exports of major products in the textile and apparel industry are showing a shrinking trend. Among them, exports of cotton yarn, cotton cloth, and knitwear fell by 3.1%, 15.7%, and 14.7% year-on-year in May, and exports of finished clothing products fell by 7.2%. The report pointed out that the textile and apparel industry is Pakistan’s main export industry, accounting for nearly 60% of Pakistan’s overall export share. Although the government has introduced incentive measures to stimulate exports in recent years, it has still been unable to restore the decline in exports of the textile and apparel industry.
