Imported clothing increased month-on-month and year-on-year
In February 2018, Japan imported US$1.109 billion of knitted clothing, a year-on-year increase of 42.54% and a month-on-month increase of 2.30%, of which imports from China accounted for 62.35% and imports from Vietnam accounted for 14.04%.
In February 2018, Japan imported woven clothing of US$1.265 billion, a year-on-year increase of 48.15% and a month-on-month increase of 3.18%, of which imports from China accounted for 57.43% and imports from Vietnam accounted for 13.93%.
In addition to August and September each year, which are the largest months for Japanese clothing imports, January to March is also the peak import season. February is often affected by China’s Spring Festival holiday and other factors, and imports shrink. However, in February this year, imports increased month-on-month and year-on-year, which is worthy of attention. China and Vietnam are the largest importers of Japanese clothing. Over the past three years, China’s share has slightly decreased year-on-year, and Vietnam’s share has increased slightly.
