-Overview of China’s apparel exports
From January to March 2018, the national apparel export situation remained stable, with exports of US$31.73 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.3%.
1. Exports to the United States increased, while exports to the European Union and Japan declined
From January to March 2018, my country’s exports to the United States were US$6.79 billion, an increase of 5.1%. Exports to the EU were US$6.65 billion, down 1.2%. Exports to Japan were US$3.7 billion, down 1.6%. In addition, exports to the Middle East were US$1.88 billion, a decrease of 16.6%. Exports to Hong Kong were US$1.51 billion, down 1.6%. Exports to ASEAN were US$2.07 billion, an increase of 18.5%. Exports to Latin America were US$2.23 billion, an increase of 17.5%. Exports to Africa were US$1.48 billion, down 18%. Exports to Russia were US$1.36 billion, an increase of 14.6%. Exports to Australia were US$960 million, an increase of 2.4%. Exports to South Korea were US$930 million, down 15%.
2. The export of knitted garments increased, while the export of woven garments declined
From January to March 2018, the export of woven clothing was US$14.47 billion, a decrease of 5.3%; the export of knitted clothing was US$12.22 billion, an increase of 3%; the export of fur leather clothing was US$500 million, an increase of 18.9%. In terms of commodity materials, cotton garment exports were US$11.26 billion, a decrease of 1.2%; chemical fiber garment exports were US$11.66 billion, an increase of 1.9%; silk garment exports were US$410 million, a decrease of 33.7%; woolen garment exports were US$570 million, down 36.1%.
3. Guangdong’s exports dropped by nearly 20%
Guangdong’s exports from January to March 2018 were US$6.54 billion, a decrease of 19%. Zhejiang’s exports amounted to US$6.12 billion, an increase of 6.6%. Jiangsu’s exports amounted to US$5.07 billion, an increase of 2.7%. Fujian’s exports were US$2.99 billion, an increase of 14.1%. Shandong’s exports were US$2.56 billion, an increase of 9.7%.
