Survey on cotton growth conditions in Dali, Shaanxi Province in 2021
Recently, the Dali area of Shaanxi Province has been dominated by cloudy weather with temperatures of 23-35 degrees Celsius, which is conducive to the normal growth of cotton. In order to understand the growth situation of new cotton in the Dali area of Shaanxi Province, the Shaanxi Dali Monitoring Station conducted on-site surveys among many local monitoring farmers.
The survey results show that the farmers surveyed planted a total of 55.5 acres of cotton this year, 3 acres more than last year, and 10 plants were sampled at fixed points per acre. Local cotton farmers said that the current overall growth of cotton is worse than that of the same period last year. The average cotton plant height is 61.2 cm, 3.4 cm shorter than the same period last year; the average number of fruit branches per plant is 4.83, 1.57 fewer than the same period last year; the average number of buds per plant is 6.62, which is 6.62 fewer than the same period last year. There were 1.81 less during the same period. Based on survey data, different cotton varieties, differences in the number of plants per mu, and current weather conditions, the average seed cotton yield per mu is expected to be around 224 kilograms, which is expected to be about 6% lower than the same period last year.
It is understood that there have been three effective rainfalls in the area since April, which has had a positive impact on cotton growth. So far, there is a slight drought in the local cotton fields (slightly worse than the same period last year), but the overall temperature is suitable and cotton growth is basically normal. The harvesting period is expected to take place from late August to early September.
During the investigation, it was found that mild verticillium wilt occurred in individual fields in the southern and northern areas of Dali County. The main pests were still aphids, and the degree of damage was minor. Recently, local cotton farmers have entered into the mid-term management of cotton fields. In addition to cultivating, weeding, and pruning, they have applied “bud” fertilizer in advance to fields with insufficient original base fertilizer, and lightly irrigated and replenished water on some high and sloping cotton fields to promote the vegetative and reproductive growth of cotton. Advance together to achieve steady growth.
It is understood that this year, most local cotton farmers are still planting in small areas and doing more for their own use. They do not have much intention on the price of cotton. It is generally believed that seed cotton should be around 4.00 yuan/jin, which is more appropriate.
