European Parliament finally passes textile origin labeling directive
According to a recent report by the French “Textile News”, the European Parliament recently passed the newly revised “Textile Labeling Directive” after the second reading and final vote. Previously, the EU Council of Ministers and the European Parliament had negotiated the second reading draft. The directive will be approved and implemented by the end of 2011 after translation and review. Alberto Paccanelli, chairman of the European Textile and Clothing Association (Euratex), said thankfully that after four years of hard work, this reform has finally come to fruition. In the past, there were three directives related to textiles in the EU, but the implementation of each member country depends on the legal provisions of each country, which is not conducive to the free circulation of goods and inconvenient to manage and control. The new regulations will replace the above directives and will be implemented by member states as soon as they are announced and implemented.
Reports say that the implementation of the new directive will standardize and simplify relevant regulations in the European market, especially adding the name of new fibers to technical annexes, which will be conducive to the development and use of new fibers and encourage innovation in the textile and apparel industry. Fur clothing labels will have special markings. The label content of textile products “Made in XX (name of country of origin)” will indicate the percentage of all textile raw material ingredients.
